Serena Williams is pregnant! The tennis superstar is expecting baby number two with husband Alexis Ohanian – and is now revealing the gender of his second child.
Serena Williams, 41, not only used this year’s Met Gala for a glamorous appearance, the tennis star also showed off her baby bump for the first time and proudly announced that she was expecting her second child.

“I was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Williams wrote on Instagram alongside a couple photo with husband Alexis Ohanian, 40, along with two other photos that perfectly framed her baby bump.

About three months later, Serena Williams announced the gender of her second child at a spectacular “Baby Shower Slash Gender Reveal” party. As she revealed she was “Team Pink,” Williams wore a pink and white skirt and a top that emphasized her baby bump. “I’m a little nervous because I don’t have a contingency plan in case it’s a boy,” she said in a video of the celebration posted to YouTube on Monday, July 31.
Then the big moment should come: instead of the usual pink cake for a girl and blue cake for a boy, Alexis Ohanian ordered a yellow cake to upset his wife. “I’m doing this because I want her and Olympia to believe this is the Jelly Bean reveal,” he whispered to the camera, referring to the nickname they have for their baby. “She’ll cut that cake and probably be disappointed and hopefully appreciate my troll. But we’ll see. I don’t know if she’ll act like a pro about it. Maybe she’ll see that cake, roll her eyes and say : ‘This guy only had one job and he gave me a frigging gender determination cake.’ But we’ll see. There’s revelation after revelation.”
So Serena Williams cut the cake, saw that it was yellow, smiled, put a piece on a plate and prepared to shove it right in Alexis’ face. “We’re actually going to reveal Jelly Bean’s gender. However, we’re going to do it with a bit of style and some spectacular lights,” Ohanian finally said, before prompting the DJ to play music and “draw the attention to the sky.” After a few seconds, drones suddenly lit up the sky and spelled out “Girl!”. Serena Williams and Alexias Ohanian are expecting a second girl.
Dramatic birth of daughter Olympia
The couple already has daughter Olympia, who will celebrate her sixth birthday in September. However, the birth of the little girl was anything but uncomplicated, the 41-year-old had an emergency caesarean section, after the birth the wound opened again due to a coughing fit, whereupon the doctors discovered several life-threatening blood clots in her body.
After the birth of her daughter, Williams told People magazine that while she was fortunate to be alive, she had to spend six weeks recovering in bed after giving birth while trying to reconnect with her mother getting used to motherhood. “All my life I’ve pushed my body to the limit,” she said. “And that was the only time I couldn’t control anything. I couldn’t push my body. My body was pushed to the limit. It was so hard.”
“Once I had a family and got married, I realized there was so much more to life”
Last year, Serena Williams revealed that she wanted another child when she retired. But her desire to have a family was not always there. “There were times I wondered if I should ever put children into this world, with all its problems. I’ve never been very confident or comfortable around babies or children, and I thought if I ever had a baby, I would have people taking care of it 24/7,” she said in an essay for Vogue.
Today she knows that her family is the most important thing to her. “I’ve been so focused on my career my whole life, but once I had a family and got married, I realized there was so much more to life. And that was amazing,” Williams admitted in a January 2021 Interview with “People”.
