The one who canceled his farewell tour in 2021 spoke with complete freedom and frankness on his health. The singer, now 80 years old, explained in particular why he no longer performed on stage. “I know that I can no longer sing on stage, physically I have too many difficulties“, he said. Before specifying: “Vocally, I could sing sitting down, but I would really feel like I was betraying my audience.“
It’s not not the first time that Serge Lama talks about his state of health. Last February, although he presented himself to the audience at the Victoires de la Musique at the Seine Musicale, the singer suggested that his body had decided to play tricks on him. “This may be the last time tonight that I see an audience cheering for me standing up. And it’s certainly the last time, because as you know, I’m stopping the fees“, he warned. And the octogenarian artist emphasized: “My body can’t keep up. I don’t want to sing sitting down, I refuse this possibility. I had a good life, I did the job I wanted to do since I was 11 years old.“

Serge Lama: this terrible tragedy which “knocked him to the ground”
Guest of Elodie’s World in August 2023, Serge Lama agreed to return to the serious car accident he suffered in 1965, when he was only 22 years old and went on tour across France as the opening act for Marcel Amont. “Yes, I took eight plane trees. The car hit the thing eight times. There was a campsite that wasn’t very far away and people came quite quickly so they alerted quite quickly too. he recalled. The singer also confided his first sensations at the time of the accident : “So I remember, I see myself on the road, lying like that. I saw the stars, I thought I was Saint-Exupéry and when they put me in the ambulance, I said to myself: ah, it’s done, it’s done because I had felt for a long time that it was going to happen“, he explained. The only survivor of this tragedy, mourning still haunts him today: “It was the accident that knocked me to the ground. Before I had no reason, everything was fine“, he confided.
