MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and members of the Russian delegation have secured visas to attend the United Nations General Assembly opening in New York, Interfax reports.

“Today visas were granted to Sergei Lavrov and a number of those who will accompany him,” the Russian news agency said, citing the Foreign Ministry.

Moscow has accused Washington of trying to prevent Russia’s participation in the 77th General Assembly, whose “high-level week” will be held from September 19-23, by delaying the granting of visas to members of the Russian delegation. .

On Tuesday, the Kremlin said the United States was “violating its obligations” by not issuing visas to the entire Russian delegation and said it was taking steps to hold the UN and the United States to account. .
