Series of accidents in Tyrol – next dead: tourers discovered under avalanche!

An avalanche in the Tyrolean Oberland has claimed another fatality! According to “Krone” information, a ski tourer who had already been searched for on Monday was found dead under snow masses.

The accident happened in the Ötztal. The local is said to have gone there alone on a ski tour on Monday. According to “Krone” information, he should have caught the wrong Kar during the ascent. He was probably caught by the avalanche and swept away on the descent. Difficult search operation A search operation was started by the mountain rescue service on Monday. A drone was also used. The search was difficult due to fog and adverse weather conditions. On Tuesday morning, two mountain rescuers and an alpine policeman were flown onto the avalanche cone by the Libelle police helicopter. By searching for an avalanche transceiver, a signal was finally received at an altitude of 2,400 meters and the dead man was dug up. Particularly tragic: Apparently, the avalanche was not triggered by the winter sports enthusiast himself – it was allegedly a remote trigger. Eighth avalanche victim since Friday This is the eighth avalanche death since Friday in Tyrol. In St. Anton am Arlberg and in Kaunerberg (Landeck district), three winter sports enthusiasts died on Saturday, as did a 17-year-old in the Zillertal. In East Tyrol, a snow plow driver (59) had an accident after being caught by an avalanche and ripped 200 meters down. A Tyrolean (55) died under a slab of snow in Längenfeld in the Ötztal on Sunday. Already on Friday, a Chinese freerider (32) paid for a trip into the open country with his life. In Tyrol, there will be avalanche warning level 3 in the next few days – considerable danger.
