Series production from the end of 2023 – super battery charges 400 kilometers in 10 minutes!

Even the best electric cars still take an absurdly long time to “fill up” than any combustion engine. But the world market leader in e-car batteries now wants to drastically reduce the time difference.

The Chinese manufacturer CATL wants to produce an extremely fast-charging electric car battery by the end of the year. The “Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery” is said to be able to store enough energy for a distance of up to 400 kilometers within 10 minutes, as the company has now announced. For comparison: Tesla states that its Supercharger in the Model 3 has a range of up to 275 km within 15 minutes At a temperature of -10 degrees, the charging process at Shenxing from 0 to 80 percent should take 30 minutes – that’s faster than most current batteries charge at the ideal temperature. With a full charge, Shenxing should enable a range of more than 700 kilometers.CATL claims to be the world’s first manufacturer whose battery achieves the charging speed index 4C, ie it can be charged to 100 percent in 15 minutes. 1C would mean one hour. In addition, the battery should be particularly safe. The first units will therefore be delivered at the beginning of 2024 – it is still unclear to which electric car manufacturer. The same applies to the price. However, these are rechargeable batteries with lithium-iron phosphate chemistry, which is considered to be rather cheap compared to conventional nickel-manganese-cobalt technology. In December last year, CATL started its first production outside of China in the German state of Thuringia.
