Andre Braugher, known as Captain Holt from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” is dead. The cast members mourn their colleague and friend.

He was one of the most popular characters from the series “Brooklyn Nine Nine”: Now actor Andre Braugher (1962-2023) has died at the age of 61 after a short illness. This was announced by his spokeswoman Jennifer Allen including the industry portal “Variety”. His series colleagues openly show their sadness on Instagram and social media.

“I mourn what Captain Holt meant to Gina”

“Brooklyn Nine Nine” star Chelsea Peretti (45), who plays the role of Gina in the series, posted a portrait of Braugher on her Instagram channel, which shows him in his series uniform at the fictional police station. She writes: “I love you. I will miss your sweet tones. I will always consider myself lucky that I went on this journey with you. A place at the ring. You were so funny and for me the epitome of the saying ‘Still waters run deep’. I will always cherish our conversations, where I often stood in your doorway and stopped you from leaving, and the great opportunity to be your buddy. Is it strange that I care about that too “Grieve what Captain Holt meant to Gina? I really hoped and knew we would see each other again. I hate that that’s not true.”

Melissa Fumero (41), who plays the role of Detective Amy Santiago in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” expresses her sadness without words. She posted a photo of Captain Holt’s empty desk on her Instagram story without comment. The photo is from an older Instagram post she posted in September 2021 with the words “Nine Nine Forever.” The last episode had aired at that time.

Kyra Sedgwick (58) plays Madeline Wuntch, the antagonist of Captain Raymond Holt, in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”. The actress is in mourning in her Instagram story about her long-term series rival. “My heart is broken by the news of the passing of the brilliant Andre Braugher. I send love to his family and friends. Playing his other half on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine will forever be one of my career highlights.”

Dirk Blocker (66), who portrays Detective Michael Hitchcock in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” also posted a photo of Braugher as Captain Holt on Instagram. “He was extremely intelligent, remarkably kind, helpful, generous and had a deep and extraordinary talent and much more to offer. I am devastated. I loved him. The nine years I worked with him and Being able to be in his presence was a true blessing. My deepest condolences go out to his family.”

“You showed me what a life well lived looks like”

Terry Crew (55), who is also a member of the “Nine-Nine” police department, is broadcasting also emotional words via Instagram to the fans and family of his late co-star. “I can’t believe you’re gone so quickly. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and spent eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent . It hurts. You left us way too soon. You taught me so much.” He is grateful for Braugher’s wisdom, his advice, his kindness and friendship. “My deepest condolences to your wife and family during this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like. Rest in peace, Andre. I love you, man.”

Andre Braugher leaves behind his wife and three sons. He married fellow actress Ami Brabson in 1991. He has three children with her, who were born in 1992, 1996 and 2003.

Braugher played one of the main roles in the crime series “Homicide” between 1993 and 1998 with Frank Pembleton. For this he received an Emmy nomination in 1996 and won the award in 1998. He played another police officer, Captain Raymond Holt, in the sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from 2013 to 2021. He was nominated for an Emmy four times for this role. Braugher previously received his second Emmy for his performance in the 2006 miniseries “Thief.” From 2008 to 2011, he was celebrated for his performance in the series “Men of a Certain Age.”
