  • Yverdon-Sport won 2-1 at home against Servette in the 23rd round of the Super League.
  • The Vaudois, who were able to operate with one more man in the 27th minute, turned a 0-1 deficit.
  • For Geneva, their longest streak without defeat in the Super League ended after 15 games.
  • In the other games on Sunday, Winterthur defeated FC Luzern, while Basel, outnumbered, achieved a 1-0 win over St. Gallen.

It appeared to be a normal duel between Servette’s Enzo Crivelli and Yverdon’s Niklas Gunnarsson. The Vaudois went down and referee Johannes von Mandach awarded the home team the free kick at the Stade Municipal. However, the referee refrained from warning the man from Geneva – until the VAR got in touch. In the replay it was clear to see Crivelli elbowing his opponent in the face. Von Mandach watched the whole thing on the screen and sent Crivelli off the pitch (27th).

But that wasn’t enough bad news for Servette, which was in the lead at the time thanks to Alexis Antunes. As soon as Crivelli disappeared into the dressing room, the home team could celebrate again. After a free kick, it was Kevin Carlos who headed the ball into the net to make it 1-1. Joël Mall didn’t make a good mistake when conceding a goal. The Geneva goalkeeper came out of his box much too hesitantly and lost the aerial duel against Carlos.

The Vaudois subsequently had events under control. After the break, Anthony Sauthier made the turnaround perfect for Yverdon-Sport. The long-time Servette player rose highest in the opponent’s penalty area and powerfully converted a cross from William Le Pogam to make it 2-1 (56′).

In the final phase, the guests tried their luck on the offensive again, but the equalizer was no longer possible. Yoan Severin was worried about the final point in an entertaining game. The Servette player was shown a yellow card twice in stoppage time and was also thrown off the pitch.

Servette therefore missed out on benefiting from YB’s Saturday slip-up. The Genevans, who had not lost in the Super League since September 24th, could have moved within four points of the leader. Yverdon, on the other hand, comes within four points of a place in the Championship Group.

This is how it continues

The next round has the next French-speaking Swiss duel in store for Yverdon. Coach Alessandro Mangiarratti’s team will be guests at Lausanne-Sport on Saturday. A day later, Servette welcomes Lugano to the Stade de Genève.
