SES imagotag: its subsidiary Captana reaches an agreement to acquire Belive.ai – 02/06/2023 at 09:04


(AOF) – Captana, a 100% subsidiary of the SES-imagotag group, announced on Monday that it had reached an agreement to acquire the majority of the capital of Belive.ai, a French start-up specializing in artificial intelligence and image analysis for physical commerce.

Founded in 2019 and managed by Aurélien Escartin and David Borakovic, Belive.ai has developed an artificial intelligence and image analysis platform allowing merchants to manage their network of stores in real time (availability of products on the shelves, waiting checkout, compliance of planograms, etc.).

Belive.ai solutions make the daily lives of teams easier thanks to competitive technology that can be adapted to all types of stores and departments; the data is available in real time for the store as well as for the head office and the warehouses.

With this merger, Captana aims to complete its technological offer in order to offer a wider choice of solutions and better cover all the needs of merchants, both in terms of use cases and in terms of pre-existing digital infrastructure. The synergies between the solutions of Captana and Belive.ai will also make it possible to offer the best of both technologies and to accelerate innovation in the service of the digitalization of stores.

Together, Captana and Belive.ai constitute the world leader in this high-potential market, present in Europe, North America and Asia, with already several dozen customers in pilot or deployment.

Completion of the transaction remains subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions and procedures.

Growth of the French market in value

According to the Gfk institute, the sector generated sales of 4.8 billion euros in 2021, up 2% compared to 2020. The product families that benefited from the best performance are in particular helmets and accessories as well as televisions. However, while the French consumer electronics market grew in value last year, it fell in terms of volumes (-2% with 51 million units sold). This trend can be explained by a move upmarket in products: Bluetooth speakers are more powerful or even televisions use more innovative technologies. Thus the development of technologies that improve image resolution (Oled, Qled, miniled) and the size of screens have caused an increase of more than 20% in the average price. Consumers are also looking for more sustainable products.
