Several broken bones – ex-ski star Rzehak down on piste ski tour

During a piste ski tour in the Christlum in Achenkirch in Tyrol on Sunday, a Ukrainian (16) crashed into the former Tyrolean speed specialist Peter Rzehak. The Tyrolean suffered several broken bones.

The now 53-year-old Tyrolean has five World Cup podiums to his name – including a second place on the Streif in 1999. Now, of all things, a gentle piste ski tour was his undoing. Accident in the upper area of the piste Peter Rzehak was on piste no. 2 in the Christlum ski area with his touring skis on the ascent. The athlete was already in the upper part when the serious collision occurred near the “Cabrio Flitzer” 6-seater chairlift in the area where it crossed another slope. For an unknown reason, a skier (16) from the Ukraine crashed into the tourer from above. “We carried out the first aid for the injured and then organized the transport,” says Sandro Huber from the Achenkirch mountain rescue service, who was on the slopes in Christlum on the day of the accident. The Tyrolean was flown to the Innsbruck clinic, the Ukrainian was taken by rescue to the Agatharied clinic in Bavaria. Second operation necessary As the “Krone” learned from the ex-racer’s environment, the 53-year-old suffered several broken bones. He needs an operation these days. The police have already received a number of reports when witnesses were first called to clarify the exact course of events. Collisions are rare. According to the alpine police, this collision between a ski tourer on a ski slope and a skier is actually an exception this winter. “In many cases – such as in Auffach – There are separate touring routes in the ski areas, and the tourers usually follow the rules,” says Christoph Silberberger, head of the alpine police in the Kufstein district.
