Sex in Bridgerton? Netflix was inspired… by snails!

Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma in Season 2 of The Bridgerton Chronicle on Netflix, has revealed some amazing inspiration for her sex scenes with Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton).

Revealed in Sex Education, Simone Ashley gained popularity thanks to another Netflix series: The Bridgerton Chronicle. Arriving in season 2, the actress plays Kate Sharma who falls in love with Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), with whom she ends up being in a relationship. This duo has capsized fans for their chemistry and their sensual scenes.

To prepare, the two actors worked with an intimacy coordinator, but not only. Simone Ashley revealed that she had found a rather particular source of inspiration. During the podcast “The Envelope” from the Los Angeles Timesthe actress indeed confided that she had watched snail mating videos:

“We explored the movement of different animals to somehow represent different rhythms, different sexualities and different sensualities or how sensual something could be. For example, we look at how snails mate, and when snails mate, they actually produce a plasma that makes them intertwine.”

A slow rise in sexual tension

The sensual and slow scenes between Kate and Anthony were therefore inspired by the mating of snails, but also other animals. Simone Ashley talks about dogs and chimpanzees in the podcast, for more fun sequences with a faster pace.

If the viewing of snail matings to prepare sex scenes can make you smile, this inspiration is not that ridiculous since the whole relationship between Kate and Anthony is built on slowness, the unspoken, the misunderstandings and the gentle rise of sexual tension between the two to a climax that fans have been eagerly awaiting.

And it paid off since Bridgerton season 2 was a real hit. Season 3 of the Netflix series, centering on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), is currently in the works.
