“An asexual person is a person who does not feel sexual attraction towards others”, defines the French Association for Asexual Visibility (AVA). Which has given itself the mission of communicating, informing and fighting “for the legal and social recognition of asexuality, which is a sexual orientation like the others”.
The AVA insists: asexuality “is not a pathology. She (therefore) does not have to be ‘diagnosed’. Asexual people, like people of all other sexual orientations, can live happy and fulfilling lives.”

Does this mean that asexual people are abstinent? Not at all, retorts the AVA: “Asexuality is not abstinence. Whether or not to have sex is your choice and you don’t have to justify it. One can have a rewarding sex life for various reasons, sexual attraction having no influence on libido or sexual pleasure”.
Similarly, “asexuality does not make a person undesirable, many asexuals are in romantic relationships whether their partner is asexual or not. Good communication is important in all relationships,” she concludes.
