Behind the acronym SFF hides an increasingly significant trend in the small world of PCs: that of designing smaller machines without the performance suffering too much.
NVIDIA has decided to address the issue, and through a program called SFF Enthusiast GeForce, the brand seems to want to encourage the creation and integration of graphics cards into more “menu” PCs.
The fashion for “miniature” computers
While, generation after generation, graphics cards have become increasingly bulky, many voices have been raised to demand more compact products, but also to rethink the design of our PCs.
The emergence and generalization of the SFF format (for small form factor) fits perfectly into this perspective, even if things remain quite vague with machine models as diverse as Apple’s Mac mini, the Corsair One from… Corsair or the numerous mini-PCs from brands such as Geekom.
Problem is, most of these small machines skip the graphics card, and among integrators, the Corsair One charges a high price for the presence of this famous dedicated card. The SFF Enthusiast GeForce initiative seems to want to improve the situation.
Do not treat the graphics card in isolation
According to our colleagues at WccftechNVIDIA would have the idea of addressing the issue of the volume of our PCs as a whole, and even if the graphics card is at the heart of the brand’s concerns, it is all the components which are concerned by the program.
NVIDIA is currently working with several of its partners to take into account both the graphics card and the chassis of our PCs or its power supply. Even if the thing still seems vague, the idea would be to arrive at a kind of “specification” intended to obtain machines where air circulation is particularly studied.
Who says SFF says space constraints. This involves significantly different airflow than what we currently know, and NVIDIA aims to achieve a standard to which all manufacturers could refer. An SFF Enthusiast GeForce label could see the light of day, but NVIDIA does not seem to be moving towards compact Founders Edition cards.
The brand wishes to favor the models of its partners, who will therefore be encouraged to experiment to offer such solutions, but it must be understood that the SFF Enthusiast GeForce does not focus on the size of the graphics card alone, the PC is taken into account. his outfit.
