SGS and Green Evénements create LEAD: the “Event Label with Sustainable Ambition”

04 Feb 2022

SGS, the world leader in testing, inspection and certification, is joining forces with Green Evénements, the leader in consulting and support for responsible event strategy, to launch the 1st label which allows, on the basis of 12 criteria, to qualify a lasting event.

A LEAD-labeled event is an event that meets 3 ambitions:

  • Zero-waste

  • Zero-net carbon

  • Positive social impact

LEAD meets the needs of any event organizer (companies, event agencies, institutions, associations) who wish to label their internal and/or external events: physical or hybrid, with or without catering.

The events sector, due to its ephemeral nature and the number of stakeholders required to design an event, generates waste and carbon emissions, like any other industry. The reuse of decorations, the type of food offered, the CSR practices of service providers, the usefulness of goodies… everything is reviewed in order to tend towards a more sustainable event.

LEAD is the culmination of a committed sectoral approach to which we have been contributing for more than 12 years. This label is the observation of an acceleration of the event sector on CSR issues and the need for a strong marker that recognizes those who are truly committed and have ambitious results to present. LEAD allows all stakeholders of an event to understand the impact of the latter on the issues that concern them. » enthuses Béatrice Eastham, President and Founder of Green Evénements.

The audit of the event is carried out by SGS. This independent body, a trusted third party, validates performance indicators and highlights concrete actions to stakeholders.

We tested the labeling process on more than ten beta-testing events, between November 2021 and January 2022. This beta-testing phase allowed us to refine and validate an impactful and transparent reference system which today is based on 3 issues and 12 key measures.confirms Vincent Frankfurt, CSR Product Manager at SGS ICS.

With several labeled events in its shopping centers during the beta-test phase, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has chosen to rely on LEAD to reinforce and highlight its Better Places 2030 strategy through its holiday events. end of the year, in particular the ecological efficiency component.

The LEAD labeling process makes it possible to work on precise and structuring criteria with quantified KPIs, which makes tangible the involvement and commitments of the URW group in terms of CSR. By following a clear methodology and thanks to the support of Green Evénements for our Christmas events, we have been able, among other things, to establish responsible sourcing for waste-generating flows.says Estelle Bossong, France Events Manager at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.

The main advantages of the LEAD Label:

  • It brings the proof of excellence, the guarantee of results

  • It makes the commitment concrete and readable

  • It is clear and accessible

  • It adapts to all event formats: physical or hybrid, with or without catering
