Shadow and Bone Season 2: The Grisha Saga Continues – all about the new episodes of the Netflix series

When is Shadow and Bone Season 2 coming out?

In December 2022, Netflix finally revealed that Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will be released on March 16, 2023. Along with this information, the streaming service also released several new images from the upcoming episodes.

Exactly one month before the start of the second season of “Shadow and Bone” Netflix released the first trailer. In the new episodes, the danger posed by the dark one (Ben Barnes) continues to escalate. To stop the Shadow Corridor and Kirigan, Alina and Mal must come out of their exile and join forces with the crows.

What will Shadow and Bone Season 2 be about?

Season 2 features two books by author Leigh Bardugo: “Icy Waves” from the Grisha trilogy and “A Song of the Crows” from the crow dilogy.

In the season 1 finale, Kirigan is revealed to be the Black Heretic: he is the dark one who created the Shadow Floor centuries ago and divided the land of Ravka.

In the shadow corridor, there is a big confrontation between Kirigian on the one hand and Alina, her childhood friend Mal (Archie Renaux) as well as the crows Kaz (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman) and Jesper (Kit Young) and the air summoner Zoya (Sujaya Dasgupta) on the other side.

Kirigan initially seems defeated and killed, but the dark one can drag himself out of the shadowy corridor, badly injured – followed by Volkra, whom he can command without the hand signals usual for the Grisha. Alina and Mal leave the country to go into hiding for the time being.

Alina will pursue the goal of clearing the shadow corridor in season 2 of “Shadow and Bone”. First, however, she takes Mal to safety in a foreign country in order to escape her numerous pursuers for the time being.

Alina actress Jessie Mei Li reveals about her character’s future: “[Alina] still has a long way to go.” At the same time, in season 2, Alina will feel “attracted to the dark side,” as actress Mei Li revealed.

For General Kirigan, the Dark Ones, Season 2 will bring some changes: He is no longer the leader of the 2nd Army. He also lost his place in the hierarchy of the land of Ravka. At the same time, Kirigan has created a number of new enemies. So he’s a lot more isolated than he was in Season 1 of the Netflix show.

But the powers of the dark have grown as well, as Season 1’s epic finale makes clear. “He’s pretty much omnipotent now,” reveals Kirigan actor Ben Barnes. “He just has to think something dark and it will happen.”

The story of the crows is set to gain momentum in the upcoming installment of the Netflix series: if Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows the original novels by Leigh Bardugo, the crows will attempt to infiltrate the Ice Tribunal at Fjerda, a Düskelle military stronghold. From there they want to rescue the inventor of a drug shrouded in mystery.

Meanwhile, Alina teams up with a privateer named Sturmhond. However, she still has to learn that he has his own agenda. Together they want to find another power multiplier to arm Alina for the fight against the dark one.

Cast of “Shadow and Bone” Season 2

All of the main cast for Season 2 of “Shadow and Bone” will most likely return.

Jessie Mei Li (Alina), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Archie Renaux (Mal), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa) and Kit Young (Jesper Fahey) are returning be.

In January 2022, the streaming service announced four new season 2 cast members. Lewis Tan (“Mortal Kombat”), Jack Wolfe (“The Witcher”), Patrick Gibson (“The OA”) and Anna Leong Brophy (“Traces”) are part of the party.

Gibson will play Nikolai Lantsov. Nikolai is a privateer hired by General Kirigan to find a mythical creature. The dark one wants to use this as a multiplier of powers.

Tan will be starring as Tolya Yul-Bataar, an Entherzer who is part of Nikolai’s crew and the twin brother of Tamar Kir-Bataar, played by Anna Leong Brophy. Wolfe will play the role of Wylan Hendriks. He becomes part of the gang led by leader Kaz Brekker and acts as the Crows’ demolition expert.

After a casting video surfaced, speculation is that Toby Sebastian will take on the role of Stormhond. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. Sebastian is known for his role as Trystane Martell in “Game of Thrones”.

Shadow and Bone: Production

Filming of the second season of “Shadow and Bone” officially ended in summer 2022. The film was again shot in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. Executive Producer Josh Barry shared images from around the city during filming and revealed it’s an important week ahead for everyone.
