The iOS 17.2 update expands the possibilities for simplified sharing between Apple devices. It is now possible to send tickets or subscription cards by bringing two iPhones together.
Imagine that you have taken it upon yourself to buy plane tickets for your next romantic weekend. So you have received both boarding passes. But once in front of the hostess, you realize that you didn’t send that of your other half. What follows is a few awkward minutes during which you proceed to share in any way you choose. Email transfer, sending the PDF to an instant messenger… If you both have an iPhone, this will soon change.
The arrival of the iPhone 15 last September was accompanied by that of iOS 17, a new version of the mobile operating system from the bitten apple brand. Among the new features, we find an addition to the function AirDrop. Appointed NameDropit allows to share all or part of a contact card with another iPhone user by holding the two phones close to each other. This gave rise to the term “NameDropping” to designate the associated gestures. The iOS 17.2 update expands its possibilities.
iOS 17.2 adds the ability to share tickets or subscription cards with a simple gesture
We can read in Apple’s description that iOS 17.2 improves AirDrop with “expanded contact sharing options and the ability to share boarding passes, movie tickets and other passes by bringing two iPhones together”. Concretely, you can share tickets or cards stored in the Apple Wallet application by holding your Apple smartphone close to another. Note that the possibility already existed via AirDrop. The change comes from the more natural procedure inspired by NameDrop.
Remember that NameDropping is secure, contrary to what American police forces recently claimed. The exchange of data is far from automatic since once the mobiles are close enough, users must choose and confirm several things before the sharing is really effective. Still in beta, iOS 17.2 should be rolled out to compatible devices before mid-December 2023.
