Electric scooters are ubiquitous in cities: practical, economical, fast and effortless to use, they are an alternative mode of transport very popular with city dwellers. Sharp understood this and decided to enter the market. The manufacturer is therefore leaving its comfort zone, namely televisions and sound bars, to try the experience of the scooter, even if the market is already rather saturated.

Two models of foldable scooters

Sharp thus unveils its two launch models with the names a priori not very evocative: the KS1AEUB and the KS2AEUB (photo by One). Both models will feature a classic design, matte black and red details. If they are both folding, like many of their sisters, they still weigh a certain weight: respectively 14.5 kg and 18.8 kg.

For example, the Xiaomi Mi Scooter 3, comparable to Sharp’s KS1AEUB model, displays 13.2 kg on the scale. The Mi Scooter Pro 2, which would be more in the same range as Sharp’s KS2AEUB, weighs 14.2 kg, or more than 4 kilos less, which is huge at arm’s length.

What we know about Sharp scooters

The first model proposed by Sharp, the KS1AEUB, which is also the less expensive of the two, can reach 25 km of autonomy. It is made of aluminum alloy, steel and ABS (thermoplastic polymer size against shocks), and is equipped with 8.5 inch tires. Its motor has a power of 350 W brushlesssupported by a 36 V 6.6 Ah battery.

The second scooter, the KS2AEUB, is heavier and more enduring, with 35 km of autonomy (36 V 10.4 Ah battery). If it has the same engine as its sister, it is on the other hand made of an alloy of aluminum and steel, with more comfortable 10-inch tires. Both models benefit from a significant strong point: they can support up to 120 kg, instead of 100 kg on some other models.

They also have a double rear suspension, for a stable ride. On the brake side, there is a mechanical disc brake at the rear and an additional electric brake. Finally, both models are IPX4 certified and can therefore circulate without worries in the rain.

To accompany its new scooters, Sharp has developed a companion app, Sharp Life. It allows you to monitor the scooter, in particular by consulting the battery and the distance traveled. It also gives the possibility of locking the vehicle using your smartphone. Other remote control functions will also be offered, such as headlight and gear adjustment.

Sharp scooters: price and release date

Sharp has indicated the German prices for these future models: the KS1AEUB scooter will be offered at the public price of 449 eurosthe KS2AEUB at 599 euros.

In addition, the two models will soon be available in Europe: Sharp announces a release in spring 2022. It remains to be seen whether the Japanese manufacturer will succeed in competing with Xiaomi in this price segment of electric scooters, where it reigns supreme.
