Shazam 2: Already in April 2023 in the stream? “Fury of the Gods” disappointed at the box office

• Like “Black Adam” before it, “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” will not be a cinema success for DC.

DC has not been able to develop an effective formula for success for its own superhero films in recent years, which is why James Gunn was now entrusted with taking command and bringing the tottering ship back on a safe course. “Shazam!” However, 2019’s was well received and as such, DC and Warner Bros. hoped that the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, one of the last films from the “old” DC Universe, would also find its audience.

Now, just a week after the cinema release, a disappointing result is emerging. Director David F. Sandberg is surprised by the lack of interest, leading actor Zachary Levi blames the bad marketing, since “Shazam! 2” wasn’t sufficiently advertised as a film for the whole family.

But maybe it’s also due to the aimlessness of the current DC films that superhero fans don’t rush to the cinemas. Once upon a time, getting to the theater early was a must if you didn’t want to catch important events from the film through internet spoilers, but the new Shazam! movie may not have any bearing on DC’s future. That’s not to say the film can’t be fun, but it also feels more expendable, so many viewers may be waiting for a stream release.

Apparently they don’t have to wait long for that, because for a short time “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” has already been listed on amazon.com for April 18, 2023 as a stream release. This means that only 39 days would elapse between the cinema and home cinema launch, an extremely short period of time that shows how little confidence Warner has in the box office results of the coming weeks.

It is not yet known where Amazon got this date from, Warner itself has not yet announced the digital purchase publication. So it could be that this date will be pushed back even further, especially since Amazon has since removed the date. In addition, we are still waiting in vain for a stream date in Germany.
