A terrible tragedy… Monday August 22, 2022, near the village of Billingshurst, in West Sussex, a 55-year-old woman was trampled by a herd of 30 cows while she was walking her dog. Horrified, many of his neighbors expressed themselves in the columns of the Mirror. A witness said: “I was maybe the fourth person who arrived in the field. I saw the air ambulance and I said, ‘What’s going on?’ (…) Apparently she was still breathing when my neighbors started giving her CPR and they continued for a long time, probably a good hour. Finally, the doctor came to see the sister and took her back, then they stopped.“

In shock, this neighbor said: “The farmer puts all these signs in the field saying, ‘Cows with calves are dangerous, don’t cross the road if you have a dog with you.’ This is the second incident involving his cows. On May 28, a man was seriously injured by cows and had to be taken by helicopter. There are about thirty cows in the field. They are mothers with babies.“A friend who did not wish his identity to be revealed revealed:”I was home right after it happened and by the time I got there my neighbors were trying to give her CPR (…) She was lovely. She loved animals and she loved her dog. He was a gentle human being. The thought that she was trampled by a cow is just hideous. She didn’t even eat it, she was a vegetarian. She was always walking her dog right outside my house. I used to work with her in a bar many years ago and she worked at Sainsburys.“

The alarming message of a former neighbor

Belinda Jackson, who left the village last April, told the newspaper: “My former neighbors told me how they tried to resuscitate her. She was walking her dog and this is not the first time this has happened to someone in these fields. Cows are actually quite violent and they tend to pick on dogs in particular, they seem to confuse them with wolves. The cows went after her dog and she had to try to help the dog. The poor lady was found covered in blood (…) My former neighbors and friends have already sounded the alarm about this, this cannot happen.“Police have appealed to all witnesses to come forward.
