Shelly Plus Smoke Alarm: a connected smoke detector soon compatible with Matter

Shelly is a manufacturer of connected objects which markets its products in Europe and the United States. He was present at the last electronics fair in Las Vegas, which took place at the beginning of the year, to present his products. Among them, a connected smoke detector with interesting features and a familiar design.

The Shelly Plus Smoke Alarm detector has the same appearance as the Firesafe 2 model that we mentioned recently. The characteristics are also very close, with the exception of the estimated life of the replaceable CR123A battery, the manufacturer probably providing a less enduring conventional battery, while Konyks has opted for a lithium version, thus increasing the duration estimated life of 3 to 5 years.

On the other hand, Shelly indicated that her product would eventually be compatible with Matter, the new standard for the connected home. This will be done at the end of the second quarter of 2023, according to statements that the CEO of Allterco Robotics, the company that owns the brand, made to The Verge.

As can be seen from the visuals, the design of the product is identical. They also share the same features, with a Bluetooth connection to facilitate commissioning so that 2.4 GHz wifi takes over. In case of smoke detection, a beep of more than 85 decibels is broadcast, while the Shelly Cloud application relays the alert on smartphone by offering the possibility of turning off the alarm remotely.

Also thanks to the application, scenarios can be set up to trigger other Shelly connected objects. Devices can thus be configured to unlock doors equipped with connected locks, cut power to sockets or even turn on lights and activate surveillance cameras.

The Shelly Plus Smoke Alarm is also compatible with Alexa, Google Home, Android and iOS. The selling price currently displayed on the manufacturer’s website is €53.88 for France, but the product is not yet available for purchase.
