Shooting in a shopping center in Sweden leaves one dead and one injured

Two people were hit by a shooting at a shopping center in Malmö, Sweden on Friday evening. One died moments later and may well have been the initial target of the attack. This Saturday, a 15-year-old boy, suspected of being the author of the shootings, was arrested.

Two people were injured on Friday evening in a late afternoon shooting at a shopping center in Malmö, southern Sweden, police told AFP. One of them died a few moments later. Police considered the attack an “isolated incident linked to criminal circles” and ruled out terrorist motivation.

This Saturday, the city police announced that the deceased man was the target of the attack. “Currently, everything suggests that this man was the target of this execution,” Petra Stenkula, Malmö’s police chief, told a press conference.

15-year-old boy arrested

The other person injured in this shooting is a woman, who is currently hospitalized in serious condition. It would be a collateral victim. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Friday on suspicion of the shooting.

“Shooting in a shopping center is terribly ruthless, with complete disregard for the lives of others,” Social Democratic Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said on Saturday afternoon during a press conference and visit to Malmö in as part of his election campaign. A few weeks before the elections in Sweden, crime has become one of the leading subjects in the national debate.
