The Swiss writer Sibylle Berg (59) made headlines over the weekend. She is the figurehead of a left-wing committee that campaigns against the Covid Act for reasons of data protection. The association is provisionally called “Vaccinated against the Covid law”, as “Switzerland on the weekend” writes. The group is thus distancing itself from vaccination skeptics.
The author, who was awarded the Swiss Book Prize, is considered one of the most important intellectuals in this country. She says about the Covid vote: “With full respect for the difficulty of the situation and in recognition of a severe respiratory disease that exists worldwide, I consider a certificate that allows or denies people access or non-access to participate in daily social life to be dangerous.”
Commitment does not only meet with approval
Berg’s commitment not only meets with approval in the cultural sector. Actor Mike Müller (57) only tweeted: “Oh dear, Sibylle.” Publisher Patrick Frey (72) adds one more thing and comments: “Really now, dear Sibylle? But you already know who you’re going to sleep with, don’t you? ” He cannot understand their motives: The certificate is absolutely exemplary in terms of data protection. “And finally, the vote is about a lot more.” For example, about financial aid, the ability to react quickly and politically, and also about a coordinated approach with the EU. Regarding the division of society, Frey says: “They are also available without a certificate because some are vaccinated and others are not.”
Viktor Giacobbo (69), Mike Müller’s former colleague in the satirical show “Giacobbo / Müller” and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Casinotheater Winterthur, is clear in favor of the Covid law, as he says Blick. “Everyone who is fighting it now, whether right or left, ensures that the pandemic is prolonged. And maybe we should take Denmark as an example in this regard too. ”
Best-selling author Thomas Meyer (47) is also clearly in favor of it: “Thanks to the Covid certificate, cultural events can finally be programmed again. If this instrument were to be abolished, the situation would be like last year: louder readings canceled due to planning uncertainty. “
