Siemens: Equips line 8 of the Berlin metro

(CercleFinance.com) – Siemens announces that Deutsche Bahn (DB), the German public railway company, is completely converting the S8 line of the Berlin metro to the latest generation of Siemens trains.

From today, some 60,000 passengers on the S8 line will also benefit from better information, more security cameras and additional space for wheelchair users, pushchairs and bicycles.

Instead of running with four cars, the new trains have six. In addition, the S8 line has been extended from Birkenwerder to Wildau via Zeuthen at peak times.

These modern trains with their characteristic flat front already run reliably on three of Berlin’s S-Bahn lines, Siemens says.

“The trains manufactured by Siemens and Stadler, are impressively reliable, but also feature state-of-the-art, energy-efficient drive technology,” said Albrecht Neumann, Rolling Stock Manager at Siemens Mobility.

To date, nine new trains are in service on the 59 km long S8 line. A total of 172 cars of the new series are currently in daily service.
