Sigma goes wide with the 14mm F1.4 DG DN Art for Sony E and L mount

To expand its catalog of hybrid lenses, Sigma is launching an unprecedented 14mm F1.4. This ultra wide-angle obviously intends to distinguish itself by its optical quality, but also a very large aperture, an absolute rarity for a UGA of this caliber. This should allow this eccentric pebble to fit into the wallet of stellar photographers.

A premium lens from the Art range

Like Sony’s G-Master, Canon’s L or Nikon’s S, Art stamped lenses occupy the top of Sigma’s basket with the best optical and manufacturing quality.

The Sigma Art 14mm F1.4 DG DN is no exception to the rule and relies on an optical formula composed of 19 elements divided into 15 groups to compensate for the artefacts linked to its focal length and its very large aperture. The formula incorporates three FLD elements, one SLD element and no less than four aspherical lenses.

Sigma adds a few features to make shooting starry skies easier, such as a tripod ring, a rear filter holder dedicated to gelatin filters, a manual focus locking mechanism, and a lens heater retention system for limit condensation on the lens on humid nights.

Price and availability

Expected on the shelves on June 23, 2023, lovers of nightscapes will be able to afford this pebble in Sony E or Leica L mount for the brand’s mirrorless cameras. It will be displayed at 1599 €. For comparison, the oldest 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art in reflex mount is offered at 1500 €. Taking into account inflation and the exclusivity of the proposal, it is to be expected that the manufacturer will revise its price positioning upwards.
