- Today at 1:30 p.m., 5,000 stationary and 2,200 mobile sirens wail throughout Switzerland.
- A regular rising and falling howling tone lasting one minute can be heard.
The “General alarm” signal is triggered via the sirens. If necessary, the siren test can be continued until 2 p.m.
In the near zones below dams, the water alarm is also tested from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the latest. This signal consists of twelve low continuous tones of 20 seconds each at 10 second intervals.
The mobile phone alarm is also tested
As in previous years, the Alertswiss channels will also be tested at the same time. The number of Alertswiss users is currently around 1.8 million, which corresponds to around 20 percent of the Swiss population. A notification is then sent to the user’s mobile phone, at the same time the information on the Alertswiss website switched on.
If the “General Alarm” sounds outside of an announced siren test, this means that the population is at risk. In this case, the population is asked to listen to the radio or get information via the Alertswiss channels, follow the instructions of the authorities and inform the neighbours.
