Six people prosecuted for cocaine trafficking between Guyana and Rennes


Six people will be judged in April in correctional in Rennes for a “important cocaine trafficking” between Guyana and the Rennes area, having led to the seizure of several hundred thousand euros in cash, the prosecution announced on Friday March 4.

The case began on December 9, 2020 with the arrest by customs officers, at the La Gravelle (Mayenne) toll, of a 37-year-old man in possession of 42,075 euros in cash. At his home in Guichen, south of Rennes, the gendarmes got their hands on a new sum of 281,865 euros and seized “two heavy-duty vehicles“. On February 28, 2022, three men known to justice and two women, all from Guyana, were placed in police custody, as part of a judicial operation carried out around Rennes and in Tours. More than 106,000 euros in cash were seized as well as ten large vehicles. One of the suspects is suspected of having transported cocaine from Guyana. The suspects will be tried from April 27 to 29 before the Criminal Court of Rennes, in particular for importing narcotics, acquisition, transport, possession, offer or sale of narcotics, in a state of legal recidivism for some of them. They risk 10 years in prison and 20 years in the event of recidivism.
