The 37-year-old ski crosser Alex Fiva wants to get back to the top of the world after tearing his cruciate ligament.

Alex Fiva has not competed in a race since December 2022. The Graubünden native suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the Ski Crosser World Cup in Val Thorens and missed the rest of the season.

But Fiva didn’t let himself get down that easily: The 37-year-old is working on his comeback. “Everything went according to plan, the physios did a great job. I was able to start snow training again in July,” said the water level report from the rehab.

Together with Ryan Regez, who was also hit by the injury witch, he trained in the weight room from August and regularly communicated with his teammate about his progress. Both were on the podium at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing (gold for Regez, silver for Fiva), and now they are fellow sufferers after their cruciate ligament tears.

«I hope I can get back to where I was. But I have to give myself the time I need, also mentally,” says Fiva. He leaves it open whether he will still be active at the 2025 home World Cup in St. Moritz. «I always said that I would take it year by year. If I see that I’m only at the back, then maybe after this season it’ll be over.”

The start of the World Cup will take place again in Val Thorens at the beginning of December.
