Technophiles and gamers are in for a treat over the coming weeks

Tech and gaming news will become much more active throughout the month of May and June. We are expecting several events that could disrupt the devices we use on a daily basis.

Each year, the months of May and June are an opportunity for several brands to unveil important updates for our software, but also new devices that will arrive between now and the start of the school year. This is a crucial period for tech and video games and this is the case in 2024 much more than in previous years. Indeed, this year more than others, each giant seems to have planned to amaze us with their latest novelties. We offer you an overview of the weeks to come. You will see, there is something to enjoy. Enough to try to make technophiles and gamers forget the latest disappointments in the sector, but also the waves of layoffs which have marked the news in recent months.

Apple opens the festivities

To everyone’s surprise, with an event announced at the last minute, it is Apple which will launch first on May 7. The conference should be dedicated to the iPad, but could also allow the firm to launch its offensive on the subject of AI.

After disappointing financial results, Apple must convince its fans and investors that the brand still has that extra something that allows it to innovate and create trends.

Sustainable Pixel 8a and Google AI

Just one week after the Apple conference, Google is meeting us for its annual Google I/O conference on May 14. This year, the firm should tour all of its services and offer new features related to Gemini generative AI.

We are especially waiting for the presentation, after numerous leaks, of the Google Pixel 8a. It should be the first mid-range smartphone to promise such great longevity with no less than 7 years of updates.

It is also during this conference that Google should finally lift the veil on its response to the Apple Vision Pro with Samsung. The two partners should have in the pipeline a mixed reality headset associated with a new version of Android dedicated to this ecosystem. The firm must act quickly, because Meta has just pulled the rug out from under it by opening Horizon OS to other brands.

Surface, Windows and the era of PC AI

Not one, but two conferences. This is Microsoft’s program for the week of May 20. After the launch of Surface for businesses in March, the firm should unveil a new range of Surface for the general public. The new machines would feature an Oled display, a first for this family of machines, and ARM chips designed with Qualcomm. The event should also be an opportunity for Microsoft to unveil the future of Windows by focusing on AI and new optimization for ARM chips. Other manufacturers like Asus should also announce their new PCs on May 20.

Then, on May 21, it will be the Microsoft Build conference where the company should still present new services dedicated to AI and explain to developers how they will be able to use these new tools for their applications.

The great mass of computers

The month of May will end in Taiwan, where the big IT brands have plenty of announcements in store for us. During the Computex show, which takes place every year at this time, manufacturers should unveil new cutting-edge machines to make us dream, but also much more accessible machines where innovation can reach a wider audience.

Qualcomm should hold a conference there to once again discuss its full arrival in the Windows world, but we will also have an AMD and Nvidia conference to get our teeth into. We imagine that Intel will not be left behind. Aside from AI, we can also expect new features for video game fans with a new generation of dedicated machines.

The non-E3 is still there

E3 no longer exists. It was the video game trade show in the United States and one of the biggest fan events of the year. If the event itself has disappeared, the period of early June is still favorable for announcements. This year, Xbox has arranged to meet us on June 9 for a giant conference where its Xbox Game Studios, but also Bethesda and Activision Blizzard will be in the spotlight. The giant now brings together a multitude of studios around the world and should offer a show of force. It would also be an opportunity for Microsoft to present a new controller, and perhaps a new console.

At the same time, Ubisoft will hold its Forward conference on June 10, and Geoff Keighley will present its Summer Game Fest on June 7. Other events such as the PC Gaming Show should also be added.

Apple again

We end this overview as we started it, Apple. The apple brand will hold its usual WWDC on June 10, 2024 live from Cupertino. This year is once again quite special since we are expecting the presentation of iOS 18, seen as a major software overhaul of the iPhone. The brand should once again hammer home its new commitment to AI, tell us about the Vision Pro and announce changes for WatchOS and macOS.
