The Tignes glacier, which will be joined by the end of November by other ski resorts, has launched the first post-Covid winter season.

The Tignes glacier opened the ski season for winter sports resorts this Saturday, October 16. Les 2 Alpes will then follow, from October 23, the day marking the start of the All Saints holidays. For the time being, the ski lifts at these resorts will not be limited to skiers with a sanitary pass. The only constraint will be wearing a mask, reports Progress. These lightened health restrictions could also be extended to other ski resorts which will open at the end of November and the beginning of December, to the extent that the Covid figures allow it. “We must not refrain from using this tool if necessary”, said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State for Tourism, on BFM FROM HERE.

“At this stage, the sanitary pass is not required on the ski lifts. It is if you are in a restaurant or in the resort”, said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. The latter is delighted that tourist reservations are starting to climb in the resorts, starting with the fall holidays. And even if there was an epidemic rebound, the Secretary of State remains very optimistic precisely because he has the “health pass” tool. He will not hesitate to put it in place, even locally, as soon as the situation requires it. “If that can help secure the season, it will have to be looked at in due course”, did he declare.

The hunt for seasonal workers is on

The winter season promises to be prolific for operators and traders who have had no, or very little, activity for a year and a half. So to fill the uptick in attendance and reservations, they decided to hire hundreds and hundreds of seasonal workers who have also suffered a lot financially after a blank season. Of the 250 stations in France, more than 15,000 seasonal jobs will be created. However, professionals fear that it will be difficult to recruit because many have opted for a professional retraining since the end of winter 2019-2020.
