Skoda’s bestseller is to become an electric car. So far we only know the Octavia as a plug-in hybrid, but it shouldn’t stay that way. Skoda boss Klaus Zellmer has now let it be known. Skoda wants to stay true to the core of the brand with the electric Octavia – and still make the new electric car a surprise package.

E-cars are the way of the future for Skoda. CEO Klaus Zellmer has now confirmed this once again. In addition to three new models that are to be launched by 2025 – including a series offshoot of the huge 7-seater SUV Vision 7S – there will also be one in the longer term Electric version of the Octavia envisaged. According to Autocar, work is already underway on the development.
For Zellmer, the electrification of the Octavia is the supreme discipline, so to speak: the Octavia is “rock solid” and the market leader in the station wagon segment. Nothing should be changed about that. At the same time, the combustion engine will not simply be given an electric motor.
The manager doesn’t want to reveal much just yet: “It’s really important for our brand, our values and our heritage to remain true,” says Zellmer. But you want with the electric Octavia also “bring some surprises onto the market”. What exactly he imagines by that will probably remain a secret for a while.
Skoda Octavia as an electric car: what we know so far
It has already been leaked that the Octavia will appear in at least three versions, as a sedan, station wagon and with a powerful RS variant. According to Autocar, Zellmer has further indicated that the SUV trend will be seen in the E-Octavia. It could higher version designed for light off-road driving.
At Skoda, too, the price advantage of e-cars stands and falls with the future electricity price:
The idea at Skoda is not entirely new: several model lines, including the Octavia, are available as Scout variant available with raised chassis. You want to keep this option with the e-car. Autocar continues to assume that the E-Octavia will achieve a range of almost 600 km and charge with up to 200 kW will be.
That would currently be a record at VW, but there is still a long way to go before the planned start: at the earliest from 2026 and no later than 2035 is the time frame so far. Customers might have to wait a while longer.
