Skull & Bones: 6 minutes of runaway gameplay to learn all about the new game system!

Formalized in 2017, Skull & Bones introduced us to his gameplay in 2018, before completely disappearing from the radar. According to the rumors of the corridors, the development would have been very complicated, involving reboots and reports. Things seem to be settling on the home side Ubisoftwhich recently promised to release it before March 2023, and even presented the new visual identity of the project by inviting players to register for private test phases.

It is perhaps following one of them that the video above has leak. A 6-minute sequence of unknown origin introduces us to what appears to be the brand new version of the gamefor explanations on its general operation and its game system, blessed bread for the curious.

The adventure will be articulated around the Lair of the Sainte-Anne Pirateslocated on theRed Islanda hub explored on foot from which we can improve our ships and equipment. This is where we can buy consumable resources for our games (such as water, rations, repair kits and ammunition), accept contracts and interact with other players. The number of our opportunities will evolve with our level ofInfamyto grow by completing contracts (it will also be possible to lose some in case of failure), to be completed alone or in groups of up to 3. Looting, exploration, finding treasures and dynamic events (such as attacking a merchant ship guarded by fearsome ships) will also earn experience.

We will embody a Captain with customizable outfits, but the progression will be done above all by building and optimizing boats that are bigger and more powerful. As a captain, it will be necessary ensure the morale and health of our crew (on pain of suffering a mutiny), and the state of our ship. If our ship sinks, we will be brought back to the lair Where Outpost the nearest, and will loseInfamy and some of our resources: it’s up to us to recover them quickly at the scene of the incident, while the other players can also try to steal our loot. A Outpost here is a safe piece of land from which we can rest, cook or store rare goods.

Otherwise, the world will be full of opportunities to harvest vegetable or mineral resources, or to hunt animals for their skins or their meat, in order to be able to craft plans, weapons and equipment, and thus customize our games and be better prepared for certain assignments. A long sight will make it possible to locate roads and merchant ships to be scuttled. We will have the choice between sinking the ships to quickly recover some of their goods, or approaching them to try to get more. It will also take beware of other players’ ships (the persistent side of the universe and the number of potential players to encounter at sea remain unclear) and AI-led corsairs. The telescope can also be used to invite other players to join forces with us to face larger challenges or groups of enemieswhy not as part of fort attacks or colony looting.

Many ideas necessarily come close to Sea of Thieves (available from €39.99 on Amazon.co.uk), but after all it would have been difficult not to take inspiration from the reference pirate ship game of the moment. Let’s hope that Skull & Bones still manage to create a real identity to renew the genre…
