Sky is raising prices: Pay-TV customers have to adjust to this

Some existing Sky Deutschland customers are facing a price increase. Affected subscribers are currently being informed by letter about the increased prices for the pay TV offer. The higher monthly costs will apply from May 2022.

Sky: Price increase for existing customers

Sky offers are becoming more expensive. As early as autumn 2021, the first customers were informed that in the future a higher monthly sum accrues. Now some other customers have received similar letters from Sky. According to Sky’s general terms and conditions, such price increases are quite possible. However, affected customers are granted a special right of termination. Anyone who does not agree with the new prices can cancel their subscription regardless of the further term.

The new prices should according to Sky from May 1, 2022 be valid. Customers report different sums that Sky would like to charge from the specified date. Sometimes there is talk of 2.50 euros more per month for the selected Sky packages, sometimes the pay-TV provider is content with 2 euros more per month. Apparently, the price increase is only due after the end of the respective contract period.

Sky has not yet commented publicly on the new prices. The higher costs are mentioned in the letters to affected customers increased total costs for program and technology justified (source: teltarif.de).

Sky: New programs lead to additional costs

In the announcement by letter, Sky points out that in recent months, among other things four new programs were launched. There are also broadcasting rights for the Premier League, DFB Cup, NHL, Formula 1 and Wanda Diamond League. The situation is different in the UEFA Champions League and the Friday and Sunday games in the Bundesliga, which Sky no longer broadcasts.
