Wendy Holdener reaches the podium in the Killington slalom for the first time this winter. Mikaela Shiffrin continues to hoard.

The podium

  • 1. Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) 1:42.02 minutes
  • 2. Petra Vlhova (SVK) +0.33 s
  • 3. Wendy Holdener (SUI) +1.37

The little “knot at the start of the season” has broken for Wendy Holdener. After the mediocre performances in Levi (ranks 12 and 8), the Schwyz native was back among the world’s best in Killington. In fourth place at the half, she overtook the German Lena Dürr with a solid second run and made it to third place.

For Holdener, who celebrated her first World Cup victory in the slalom last year in Killington, it is the 35th slalom podium of her career.

Mikaela Shiffrin once again created an electric atmosphere in the finish area in Killington. In front of her home audience, the American achieved her 6th slalom victory in the US state of Vermont – her 90th World Cup triumph overall.

The leader after the first run was not impressed by another strong performance from her eternal rival Petra Vlhova. As she often does, she turned up the heat in the last few meters and distanced the Slovakian by a good three tenths. In Levi, the two slalom queens shared the victories between themselves.

The other Swiss women in the points

Behind Holdener, three athletes ensured an extremely successful Swiss result in the east of the USA. Above all, Michelle Gisin set an exclamation mark with 6th place and already surpassed her best slalom result from last winter (8th place) in the 3rd race. The woman from Obwalden worked her way into the run twice and showed strong finishes.

Camille Rast and Mélanie Meillard also scored confidently in the points. Both improved in the second run and catapulted themselves up 9 places each.

This is how it continues

The technicians will be called upon again in just one week. Two giant slaloms are on the program in Tremblant, Canada, on Saturday and Sunday. Lara Gut-Behrami won the first two races of the season in this discipline.
