Slovakia delivers S-300 missile system to Ukraine

PRAGUE, April 8 (Reuters) – Slovakia has donated its S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Ukraine to help defend against the Russian military, Prime Minister Eduard Heger said on Friday.

“I can confirm that Slovakia donated the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine following its request for self-defense assistance due to armed aggression by the Russian Federation,” says he said in an emailed statement.

Eduard Heger, who visited Kyiv on Friday, also said Slovakia’s defense was secure.

Slovakia, a NATO member, operates a battery of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles. It inherited this defense system after the break-up of Czechoslovakia in 1993.

Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad said on Friday that the country will receive a fourth Patriot battery, an American air defense system, next week. (Report Robert Muller, French version Augustin Turpin)
