In many cases, smart lamps not only offer more functions than conventional models, they can also be started conveniently from the sofa by voice or app. Even fully automatic switching on and off is possible, for example in conjunction with a motion detector or depending on your location. However, all of this only applies if the corresponding signal actually reaches the lamps. Because if – again – someone accidentally pressed the light switch, the light stays off. Smart light switches can help.
But not every light switch advertised as smart solves the problem, in many cases such models are only designed for use with conventional light sources. However, there are actually smart switching options for the widespread systems Philips Hue and Ikea Tradfri as well as compatible lamps. We show which ones are involved and which options there are in addition to the complete change of the switch including the socket.

Why not every smart switch is suitable for smart lamps
Many manufacturers of smart home systems and accessories sell operating aids that replace existing light switches. However, these are often intended for exactly one smart light control scenario: to operate conventional light sources that do not have a radio chip themselves with the preferred network software.
