Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 runs much cooler
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm works in many current Android smartphones. Samsung made this processor. It quickly became clear that the SoC gets very warm and needs good cooling. If a manufacturer does not provide appropriate cooling, such as OnePlus in the 10 Pro, then this results in poor performance for intensive tasks such as gaming. This is exactly what I was able to experience first-hand during the test. It’s just frustrating when an alleged high-end smartphone that can only develop its performance for a few minutes and then it becomes so slow that a game only runs jerkily. This shouldn’t be the case and will change:
Anyone who is worried about the heat development of current top smartphones can breathe a sigh of relief in the second half of the year. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will be much better in that regard. This is now confirmed by a reliable source that has repeatedly provided correct information. Samsung no longer builds the improved chip, but TSMC. This should ensure that high-end smartphones no longer overheat, but can also be operated under full load for a longer period of time.
We can only hope that all manufacturers will actually switch. Sony probably doesn’t intend to do that, so the Xperia 5 IV and Xperia 1 IV Pro will continue to be released with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which gets way too warm. The problem is known, because the Xperia 1 IV overheats.

The big question will be whether Samsung will develop a new Exynos processor for the Galaxy S23 or also use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 or the Gen 2 directly. This should be presented at the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023. The difference between the processors from Samsung and Qualcomm should then become even greater. Since the Exynos chips are installed in Europe, we would be at a clear disadvantage. But there is also a rumor that Samsung will be using the Qualcomm chip until it can use its own Galaxy processor in 2025.
