During the night there was a bit of fresh snow in some areas in the lowlands. Snow fell especially in central and eastern Switzerland, while the west was largely spared, as the weather services report. It snowed intensely at night on the Alpstein.
The thickest snow cover was measured on Monday morning in St. Gallen, where 27 centimeters of snow had fallen within 24 hours, as Meteoschweiz announced on Twitter. In Waldstatt AR the snow depth was 23 centimeters and in Ulrichen VS 20 centimeters. It was closely followed by Elm GL with 18 and Glarus GL with 15 centimeters and the Zürichberg with twelve centimeters.
Trucks got stuck on the A1
The weather service Meteonews warned of slippery roads in the morning. Even at 4 a.m. there were still a few snow showers here and there.
Heavy snowfall has led to various road accidents in the canton of St. Gallen. The police have therefore had to move out 16 times since midnight. Several trucks got stuck on the A1 at the Bürerstich near Oberbüren. A woman was slightly injured in a self-accident on the A13 motorway near Mels. There were also accidents in Mörschwil and Bad Ragaz because of the fresh snow.
The road between Laupen and Neuenegg in the canton of Bern is still closed in both directions due to a landslide. The lockdown was imposed on Saturday evening.
Three injured in Zuoz
According to the cantonal police in Zurich and Bern, there were no significant incidents in the early morning. The traffic rolled normally.
In Zuoz GR, a car turned right on the snow-covered lane on the other side of the road and collided with a vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction. Three people were injured. An ambulance took them to the hospital. The exact cause of the accident is determined.
The changeable weather gradually subsides in the new week. The air pressure increases continuously. From Wednesday, a strong high pressure area with a core over the British Isles will determine the weather in Switzerland. On Thursday, the air pressure in Switzerland is likely to rise to an unusually high 1040 hectopascals. (SDA / noo)
