Snap Inc announces the creation of its first acceleration program focused on supporting “25 Emerging and Unknown Black Talents”. Objective of this mentorship: to help individuals from the black community to be better represented on the platform.
“Black creators face unique systemic barriers in the creator industry — pay and attribution disparities, toxic experiences and moreexplains Snapchat in its press release. We believe one way to help break down some of these barriers is to provide mentorship and financial resources to emerging Black creators early in their professional careers. Professional creators often have the training and tools to monetize, demand proper attribution, and create ongoing opportunities.”.
Applicants will be selected through a form to be completed at https://523.snap.com/, and applications close on August 12. The results will be announced during the month of September. Snap will give each selected entrant $10,000 a month for a year, a Google Pixel 7 Pro, an upgrade to Snapchat Star status, and they’ll be asked to give feedback on new Snapchat features.
Other companies have already launched similar programs, such as YouTube, which announced earlier this year that it had selected beneficiaries for its YouTube Black Voices Fund program.
This announcement comes as Khaby Lame, content creator from Senegal, has become the most followed personality on TikTok.
