SNCF Connect: Yes, but no in the end


It was a rather risky change. When in 2017 Guillaume Pepy, then CEO of SNCF, unveiled the new brands of the company, he was already discarding. “I was not convinced by the new proposal, but the people of the com wanted it”, he said then in essence.

Hence the inOui version, or Oui.sncf, which then replaced Voyages-sncf.com, the online reservation and purchase site. Exit the Yes therefore, and place with the update of this application to a redesign of course, but also a new name, SNCF Connect.

Formerly Oui.sncf, SNCF Connect brings together many rail carrier services in a new, more modern and intuitive interface. : search, management and reservation of train tickets, route search, etc.

This new platform includes Oui.sncf (450 million visits per year and 11 million “active customers” who bought a ticket in 2021) and the SNCF Assistant. Why ? For the sake of simplification and winning back its customers.

“The ambition behind SNCF Connect is to ensure that our customers find everything they need for their short and long journeys in a single place,” says Anne Pruvot, CEO of SNCF Connect and Tech, an entity that was previously called e.Voyageurs.

Launched on Tuesday 25 January, SNCF Connect is available with the same functionalities in web and mobile versions.

The SNCF ensures that this application allows “a single response for the customer”. With regard to TER and buses in particular, the prices should be easier to consult.

Complaints and reimbursement requests, functions that have been particularly used over the past two years, have also been reviewed.

In a logic of MaaS (Mobility-as-a-Service), SNCF Connect will offer the timetables and prices of FlixBus and BlaBlaCar, car rentals from Avis, carpooling, but also taxis or VTCs.

However, the company specifies that “Oui.sncf customers will find their current reservations on SNCF Connect thanks to their My SNCF ID customer account”. Note that SNCF Connect will not replace the Ouigo or TGV InOui Pro application. SNCF Connect will manage Ouigo journeys, but the Ouigo and TGV Inoui Pro apps will remain available.

Holes remain in the racket. In Ile-de-France for example, the app does not sell tickets to go to the suburbs.

The overhaul project lasted 18 months and involved nearly 200 people. This new digital service is designed by the subsidiary e.Voyageurs SNCF and developed around cloud technologies with AWS.

The mobile app was developed with Flutter, Google’s cross-platform interface framework. According to the group, the use of this technology on this scale is unprecedented in France.
