SNCF opens a waiting list service for its low-cost Ouigo trains


While reservations are in full swing, the director of TGV-Intercités Alain Krakovitch considers that “10% of customers change their minds while others are looking for a place”.

The cross and the banner. While the crossover of the summer holidays is approaching, some French people are still waiting to be able to reserve a train seat to go on vacation. Faced with reservations which are often closed, the SNCF has decided to take matters into its own hands and to rectify its policy on its low-cost Ouigo journeys, which sometimes revolve around 10 euros. Assuming that 10% of customers “change their minds as others look for a place”in the words of director of TGV-Intercités Alain Krakovitch on Tuesday morning, the transport company will therefore allow users, looking for a journey, to register on a waiting list in the event of a full train.

The process is simple: anyone who has an unforeseen event can offer their ticket for resale on the SNCF website and recover 80% of the amount they paid; those who want to buy a place can therefore register on this famous waiting list. They will be contacted if there are any cancellations. A new service that is all the more innovative as Ouigo tickets are initially non-exchangeable and non-refundable, whatever the reason. With nominative tickets, resale was then prohibited. These trains, which already make it possible to travel with far fewer services than conventional trains, will not generate any discounts: the lucky ones will have to pay for their seats in cash.
