Snow and ice weather alert: 3 departments placed on orange alert this Wednesday: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

The time has come for vigilance in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Météo France placed three departments on Tuesday March 26, 2024 orange snow-ice warning for the day of Wednesday March 27, 2024. Vigilance concerns the departments of Loire, Haute-Loire and Isère. The snowflakes should fall until around 9 a.m. in the area, at low altitude. The weather service calls on motorists to be careful on the roads, detailing that it is a snow “heavy and sticky”. The snow should reach 10 centimeters thick in Le Puy and 20 centimeters on the plateaus at 1000m altitude. The Brivadois area, a region to the west of Haute-Loire, should however be spared. In the Loire and Isère, snowfall is expected above 400m altitude, with 5 centimeters expected at this altitude and 10 centimeters from 600 meters. Why these snowfalls at the end of March? It’s about a “cold air mass” of polar origin coming into contact with an anticyclone between Iceland and North Africa, with milder air, explains Auriane Bérard, forecaster at Météo France, to BFM TV.

Vigilance in the West from this Thursday March 28, 2024

A second episode of vigilance should begin on the night of Wednesday March 27 to Thursday March 28, 2024 further west. A strong swell is forecast from the southwest to the Channel coast. Indeed, strong winds are expected to hit the Atlantic coasts, linked to Storm Nelson, the name given by the Spanish weather services. We could observe powerful winds in the southwest sector, at more than 120 km/h”explains Yann Amice of Weather & Co to Ouest France. The specialist adds: “The waves off the Atlantic coast could reach 10 to 11 meters. Along the coast, we will rather see waves estimated at 4-5 meters in height.” On the temperature side, it is planned between 8 and 12 degrees for the maximum, data consistent with seasonal averages.
