Snowboard Cross – Not enough snow yet! Home World Cup is postponed

Bad news for Luca Hämmerle (above) and Co. after yesterday’s FIS snow check on the Hochjoch: The snowboard cross World Cup races scheduled for December 8th and 9th will not take place as planned due to a lack of snow. In the Silvretta Montafon, however, one hopes to be able to add the races before Christmas. It is planned that the World Cup convoy will make a guest appearance at the Seebliga on December 19th and 20th – if there is enough snow by then.

“The current snow cover in the Montafon is already sufficient for tourist weekend operations. In order to be able to hold spectacular snowboard cross races on a demanding and well-groomed route, we still need some snow,” says Rupert Steger, ÖSV division manager for events after the FIS snow check on Friday afternoon. “That’s why we decided to postpone the World Cup by a few days.” That means in plain language: The races are now scheduled to take place on December 19th and 20th, directly after the competitions in Cervinia, Italy. “I would like to thank the FIS, the ORF and our regional partners Montafon Tourismus and Silvretta Montafon for the flexibility in looking for a new date,” Steger is quoted as saying in a broadcast.
