The German U21 national team has crowned the European Championship with the title thanks to top scorer Lukas Nmecha. The team of DFB trainer Stefan Kuntz deservedly won the final against Portugal in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1-0 (0-0) and after 2009 and 2017 they achieved their third and most surprising EM triumph.
Anderlecht striker Nmecha (49th) scored in a fast-paced final for the superior German team. With his fourth tournament goal, the attacker also secured the golden shoe for the best European Championship goalscorer. Before the break, Leverkusen’s young star Florian Wirtz had already hit the bar.
The title comes completely unexpected – just a year ago, the current year was classified as comparatively weak. «I was rather pessimistic about that. But as you can see, something has come of it, ”said Kuntz. For the successful coach, it was the second title in the third final in a row. (AFP)
