Societe Generale: on the road to carbon neutrality


(CercleFinance.com) – Societe Generale announces that it has set new intermediate targets to be in line with trajectories compatible with the objective of global carbon neutrality by 2050.

Thus, the bank reinforces its objective of reducing the carbon intensity of exposure to the power generation sector. The CO2 emissions intensity target is now 125g CO2 per kWh in 2030 compared to a previous commitment of 163g.

The bank also announces a strengthening of the objectives of reducing exposure to the oil and gas production sector, with a target in terms of outstandings of -20% by 2025 compared to 2019 (vs. previous commitment of -10%).

The new target for absolute carbon emissions related to the end use of oil and gas production is -30% in 2030 compared to 2019.

‘Societe Generale has placed CSR issues and in particular that of ecological transition at the heart of its ambition and its strategic roadmap for 2025’, underlines Frédéric Oudéa, Chief Executive Officer of the Societe Generale group.

“In a complex geopolitical and economic context, which places energy issues at the forefront, our Group continues to proactively support the ecological transition in line with the Paris Agreement”, continues the director.
