Sofia of Sweden: what Carl Philip’s wife looked like before joining the royal family

Before joining the Swedish royal family in 2015 through her marriage to Prince Carl Philip, Sofia Hellqvist had a first life that saw her go through television in particular.

For ten years, Sofia Hellqvist shares the life of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, currently fourth in the order of succession to the Swedish throne. But before officially joining the royal family with her wedding in June 2015, the young woman had a first life, far from the prestige that royalty brings.

The daughter of a counselor at the Swedish Employment Agency and a marketing manager in the plastics industry, Sofia was born in December 1984, in central Sweden. Passionate about dance, piano and theatre, the young woman quickly moved to Stockholm where she started a modeling career, in parallel with a small job as a waitress. Very quickly, the charm of this tall brunette wreaked havoc and Sofia was elected Miss Slitz 2004 by Victoria Secret magazine. She then participates in a Swedish reality show, Paradise Hotel, near Temptation Island in France. After this passage through television, Sofia flew to the United States where she became a yoga teacher and returned to Sweden to follow a training course in ethical development.

A first meeting in 2008

In 2008, the young woman attended the Swedish Tennis Open, a sporting event to which Prince Carl Philip is accustomed. One evening, they find themselves in the same restaurant, with their respective groups of friends. The exchanges begin between the two bands and the evening ends in a nightclub. Between Sofia and Carl, love at first sight takes place but the prince has already been in a relationship for ten years with Emma Pernald.

It is therefore necessary to wait two years for the Swedish royal house to confirm that Prince Carl Philip now has a relationship with the former reality TV star, Sofia Hellqvist. Since then, married to number 5 of the Swedish royal family, the young woman is the mother of little Alexander and Gabriel, respectively aged 3 and 2 years.
