Software installed – fake “bank employees” stole tens of thousands of euros

First, a 35-year-old from Villach received a suspicious text message, then he was contacted by phone by an alleged bank employee to protect him from fraud.

“Your access to online banking has expired.” This is what the SMS announced to the Villacher on November 1st. He immediately clicked on the link provided and entered his login details there. “In the evening he was contacted by a man who claimed to be a bank employee. He told him that a transfer had been made to Russia and that the SMS was a scam message,” police reported. “So he was tricked into downloading software and logging in to online banking again.” Bank supervisors noticed the fraud. The fraudster then had full access to the 35-year-old’s account and carried out several transfers amounting to tens of thousands of euros . “It was only when the victim was contacted by his actual bank representative on Thursday that the fraudulent act was discovered,” said the police.
