Soleolico: The world’s first hybrid system consisting of wind turbine and photovoltaics

If the sun doesn’t shine, the wind blows: the energy company Soleolico has turned this idea into a new type of hybrid system. Theoretically, this is capable of generating energy around the clock.

The manufacturer writes in a press release that this new type of wind turbine is up to 25 percent more efficient than conventional systems on land. There are also positive synergy effects when several systems are in operation in close proximity to one another. The “solar sails” are supposed to align themselves optimally using patented magnetic technology, but how exactly remains unclear.

“Thanks to the blade system developed by the engineer Pedro Terrón and the photovoltaic support, Soleolico’s performance is better than that of other technologies and offers a highly competitive energy price. Due to its size and power (10 kW), Soleolico can be used both in generation parks and for self-consumption solutions “In addition, the system can be installed in areas with wind and solar energy sources without any restrictions in terms of environmental protection, safety or aesthetics,” says Pablo Fernández de la Torre, CEO of the company.

The innovative energy system, which is visually reminiscent of the wind trees and bushes, is not yet being produced in series. A working model displayed in front of the Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander, Spain, aims to introduce the public and investors to the principle.
