Well established in the high-end segment with the Studio Buds + and the Fit Pro, Beats is trying its luck with headphones placed under the €100 mark. The Solo Buds therefore have the mission to shake up Huawei, Sony and Samsung, current kings of the mid-range.
The Solo Buds have a design similar to that of the Studio Buds + with an olive shape that fits into the hollow of the ear. Beats announces that it has studied the design of its headphones by integrating a vent system designed to improve the response in low frequencies and limit the pressure exerted by the in-ear format. The case is particularly compact and allows for a total battery life of 18 hours.

The Solo Buds, however, suffer from one major drawback: active noise reduction. Although Beats promises effective passive isolation, the Solo Buds will probably not be able to compete in this area against their competitors, almost all of which offer this functionality. Beats, on the other hand, stands out through extensive integration within the iOS and Android ecosystems. One-touch pairing is available on both platforms, as is geolocation functionality.
The Solo Buds will be available in black, gray, purple or red, at a price of €89.95 and starting next June.
Alongside the Solo Buds announcement, Beats announced the redesign of its iconic headphones into a fourth version. The Solo 4 adopts a similar design to its predecessor, but slightly rounds the corners and tilts its earcups to provide a more ergonomic design. The helmet is equipped with new pads promising a longer lifespan and better feelings of comfort. The Solo 4 also relies on its lightness: 217 g promised on the scale.

New 40mm drivers appear and promise “unparalleled clarity and sound palette”. An improvement in the microphones is also announced, with autonomy also increasing to 50 hours on this new model. On the connectivity side, we find a Bluetooth chip, a mini-jack input and a USB-C port allowing you to enjoy your music in Lossless quality.
Like other Beats products, the Solo 4 offers an advanced user experience on both iOS and Android with easy pairing and geolocation functionality. As a subsidiary of Apple, Beats, however, reserves some features for the world of the parent company such as calling Siri directly by voice, audio sharing, but also Spatial Audio with head movement tracking.
The Solo 4 will be available in black, blue or pink, priced at €229.95 and starting in May.
