some Intel processors are no longer compatible with the OS, here are which ones

Windows 11 has officially dropped a few Intel processors, which obviously won’t please some users using computers equipped with these chips.

While new AMD and Intel processors regularly join the list of chips compatible with Windows 11, Microsoft sometimes quietly drops support for a few processors. Indeed, it would seem that the American company has removed several Intel processors from the list of chips supported by Windows 11 in recent weeks.

The change concerns the list of processors compatible with Windows 11, in particular for the upcoming 21H2 and 22H2 updates. If they were so far compatible with the first versions of Windows 11, then they should not receive future updates of the operating system.

Which Intel processors are no longer supported in Windows 11?

Among the processors that leave the official list of chips supported by Windows 11, we mainly find Intel Xeon chips. This is the series dedicated to servers, but some users use these chips in their personal machines. Here is the list of all processors discontinued by Microsoft:

  • Intel Xeon E-2104G
  • Intel Xeon E-2124
  • Intel Xeon E-2124G
  • Intel Xeon E-2126G
  • Intel Xeon E-2134
  • Intel Xeon E-2136
  • Intel Xeon E-2144G
  • Intel Xeon E-2146G
  • Intel Xeon E-2174G
  • Intel Xeon E-2176G
  • Intel Xeon E-2176M
  • Intel Xeon E-2186G
  • Intel Xeon E-2186M
  • Intel Xeon E-2224
  • Intel Xeon E-2224G
  • Intel Xeon E-2226G
  • Intel Xeon E-2226GE
  • Intel Xeon E-2234
  • Intel Xeon E-2236
  • Intel Xeon E-2244G
  • Intel Xeon E-2246G
  • Intel Xeon E-2254ME
  • Intel Xeon E-2254ML
  • Intel Xeon E-2274G
  • Intel Xeon E-2276G
  • Intel Xeon E-2276M
  • Intel Xeon E-2276ME
  • Intel Xeon E-2276ML
  • Intel Xeon E-2278G
  • Intel Xeon E-2278GE
  • Intel Xeon E-2278GEL
  • Intel Xeon E-2286G
  • Intel Xeon E-2286M

  • Intel Xeon E-2374G
  • Intel Xeon E-2378
  • Intel Xeon E-2378G
  • Intel Xeon E-2386G
  • Intel Xeon E-2388G

If you are unfamiliar with Intel server chip designations, be aware that the above processors are based on Intel’s Coffee Lake architecture, the 8e generation of the company’s Core processors. However, other processors such as the i7-8700K or the i5-8400 are still compatible. Microsoft has not yet justified the reason for the exclusion of certain processors and not others.
