some Pixels would have serious heating and battery problems

For several days, many Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners have been complaining about their phones overheating, coupled with plummeting battery life. This anomaly would be linked to an update of the Google application.

But what is happening on the latest generation Pixel phones, except for the Pixel 7a which was recently presented by Google during Google I/O? Several American media articles relay extremely restrictive problems: particularly marked overheating, combined with a plummeting autonomy.

Engadget was the first to mention these anomalies following a reader’s report. On Reddit and Google’s support page, complaints to this effect have been piling up for several days already. For one, his Pixel 6 Pro and his partner’s Pixel 6 lost 20% battery in less than an hour.

The Google app would be in question

For another, his usual 6 hour screen time plummeted to 3 hours. In total, four models would be particularly affected: the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. For now, the Pixel 7a seems to be spared – still happy, because that would have been one hell of a bad surprise for new owners.

What is the cause of this annoying anomaly? A recent update to the Google app could be the cause. Several Internet users have indeed noticed that it is particularly energy-intensive. Problem: for the moment, no viable solution seems to have been found.

No solution found, yet

Users have contacted Google support to find a solution to this problem, to no avail. Going back to the older version of the Google app wouldn’t change anything either, just like resetting the phone to factory settings. The Mountain View firm has not yet officially communicated on it.
