Markets will have learned the results of the general elections in Italy before the opening of the first session of the week. An event watched of course by the operators since Giorgia Meloni, leader of the radical right party Fratteli d’Italia, is given great favorite. More oriented towards the United States than towards the European Union, the possibility of his election has rekindled concerns, on the markets, of a sovereign debt crisis, while the spread between ten-year German and Italian rates were fluctuating around 230 basis points yesterday.

After the political event, the markets can focus on a few statistics. Germany’s September Ifo business climate index will be released, expected at 87 from 88.5 the previous month. We will also wait for the Chicago Fed’s national activity index for the month of August, published at 0.27 points for the month of July and the Dallas Fed’s manufacturing survey for September, which came out at -12. .9 the previous month. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will also publish its economic forecasts.

Finally, and later in the afternoon, in Brussels, the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, will speak to the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament. Those early in the morning will have learned, before the opening of the Paris Stock Exchange, the instantaneous PMI Jibun indices of the purchasing managers of the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors for September in Japan.
